The 25-year-old “Saturday Night Live” comedian has been repeatedly spotted filming an untitled Judd Apatow project in his hometown. According to Deadline, the film’s storyline will mirror Davidson’s life and is expected to incorporate his late father, a firefighter who died on 9/11. The cast and crew have become locals after bouncing around from a private home to a pizzeria and even to the local beach for shoots. The film, currently dubbed on IMDb as “Untitled Judd Apatow/Pete Davidson Project, ” is slated to be released in summer of 2020 and stars Apatow’s daughter Maude, Marisa Tomei, Machine Gun Kelly, Steve Buscemi and Bill Burr. Kelly, 28, and Davidson have been friends for a while. The rapper came to his aid after the comic posted a troubling message on Instagram last year and shortly after they were seen enjoying a basketball game together.

Along with a very public break up with Ariana Grande, Davidson has openly battled with depression and mental illness for years. Apatow and Davidson made their way to Staten Island in February to scout film locations. The comedian was seen in Elm Park, where residents reportedly received letters stating the “neighborhood is an area of interest for a new film project. " The letter included a timeline for the project: “Shoot dates are TBD Summer. We are expecting production to last 1-2 months. Depending on the final script, we would be looking to shoot on your property for approximately 1-3 weeks. ” Throughout the summer, the production has filmed at Ralph’s Ices, Denino’s Pizzeria & Tavern, Rosebank Pizza and at a home on Lake Avenue in Mariners Harbor. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the duo is teaming up for the as-yet untitled project, which Davidson wrote in conjunction with Apatow and SNL writer Dave Sirus. For Apatow, this will be the first feature film he’s directed since 2015’s Amy Schumer vehicle Trainwreck, and he apparently sees a lot of similarities between that and this upcoming movie. Davidson, quite famously, lost his firefighter father in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre when Pete was just 7 years old. The new film will reportedly follow his life growing up in Staten Island, New York, and will follow his burgeoning stand-up career that began when he was just 16. Davidson’s feature film career is starting to attract heat; his first leading role in the coming-of-age film Big Time Adolescence has garnered critical praise after its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this week.
